Dec 2022 Newsletter

Well, it only seems right that this storm, like the Nov. 2015 one that caused delays in opening would cause problems with what is happening this month.    December brings several things.  Our 7th anniversary since opening in December 2015.  We would like to thank everyone who has taken classes, shopped with us and supported us through one of the craziest times we have lived through with the Covid-19 Pandemic.  This storm is causing problem s with our Store Closing Sale.

We will have all the decorations that you have made our first 5 Christmas’ to help decorate our shop tree on our tree.  When you come in, please take yours off and bring it/them up to the counter to put your name in for a special drawing to be given away on Dec. 15th.

We let you know last month that due to the economy (Extremely low sales for the last 10 months) we were having to make some changes.  Reduction of hours and staff, but sadly even with those changes and the sale prices we had for the 2 weeks of our Pre-Black Friday sale, all of those changes weren’t enough for us being able to come close to covering our basic monthly expenses. After January 31, this has been the case for the majority of this entire year.

More and bigger changes have to come immediately.  We are working on reorganizing, downsizing and relocating the parts of the business we can.  The machine room that we added January 2021 will be gone as of Thanksgiving weekend.  We will no longer be the Spokane area Handi Quilter Retailer as of Dec. 21.  But we will continue to offer support to those who have bought machines from us until you have a new retailer to help you.  Jim will not be available for any HQ services for the next 4 months at least.

Quilts that are in our care for Quilting services we are getting them done as quickly as possible and will call you as soon as they are ready for pick up.  For those who have quilts in Montana for hand quilting, I am in contact with Cora and will keep you up on where things stand for getting your quilts back when the quilting is finished and she is ready to ship them back.

Please help us!  We have to clear out our other spaces as well before Dec. 17th!

Nov 30 – Dec 8th    Store Closing  35% OFF all 45” Fabric, Notions, Patterns, HQ Gadgets and supplies.  Books will be an addition 15% off our regular 20% discount prices.

December 9th – 17th  45% off remaining 45” Fabrics, Notions, HQ Gadgets, patterns and supplies.

All 108” backing, batting and thread will NOT be discounted as we are planning on expanding the to carry only those things in our new location when it is completed.  We will also offer longarm quilting services with a quicker turn around since Twila’s time will be more dedicated to that part of the business.

Dec. 17th will be our last day Open for Business in this building.  When we reopen, hopefully late March or April 2023 it will be in Nine Mile Falls, WA.  We will be expanding 108”-120” backings, A full selection of Quilters dream, Aurifil Thread, King Tut thread and So Fine thread.  We will offer longarm quilting service and some machine rental, but no other retail.

Dec. 3, 10-2 Free Motion on your domestic machine with Naomi. $40 includes sample sandwich.

Dec. 8th Final Book & Block Club meeting. 12:30-4.

Dec. 9th Mystery Quilt 10 – 2.  (This club will continue 10-2 at the Suncrest Storage Solution conference room on the 2nd Friday of each month.)

Jim and I are still talking about whether or not he will reopen his machine service/repair side of it all.  We know that it is upsetting and stressful not to have someone close at hand whom you trust to take care of your machines, but he is so exhausted after 7 years of trying to keep up with 2 full time jobs, that he needs a very well earned and much needed break.

We will let everyone on our mailing list as well as hopefully the smaller groups through WSQ small group info or you forwarding the info to your friends and quilt guilds, know when our reopening will be as well as any further info on changes to our business as they happen.

We know that many of you have met and made wonderful friends through our shop as have we that want to get together to sew on a regular basis.  I have found a place in Nine Mile Falls (2nd Friday Mystery Quilt Club & 4th Friday Charity Quilt Club of each month 10-2) at the Storage Solutions main building. But I do need help to find a place in Deer Park for those who wish to join me in a charity quilting group.  For the charity sewing group, we will be supplying the fabric and patterns to make the tops.  If you know of a place that does not charge, please let me know as soon as possible.  Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us in the Charity Quilt Club.

Thank you for your support over the last 7 years and understanding the changes that need to take place and supporting us in making those,

Jim & Twila
