Happy May Day!

The weather has been so lovely and it is so nice to see the little faces of all the flowers that are blooming. Add the sprouting leaves on the trees and by George I think Spring has made it’s presents known.

Congratulations to our ASG Shop Hop Prize Winners! Pat Hart won a new Elna Lotus Sewing Machine valued at $899.00 and Renee Lewis won the Aurifil Tula Pink Thread Collection valued at $150.00. Thank you to veryone who came in our shop on Shop Hop adventure. We truly appreciate you and your support.

We have a Special class series coming up that several of you asked for so here it is. We will be doing a Sampler Class with 12 blocks, but instead of doing 1 a month you can have the entire 12 blocks done in 8 weeks. Classes will be every other Tuesday Starting on Tuesday May 7th and ending on June 18th. Each class is 4 hrs long (9:30-1:30) and will be taught by Naomi Hall. I know this is short notice, but it was confirmed after the April newsletter had already gone out. Please act quickly if you would take part in this fun and learning opportunity. The supply list is at the checkout counter and will be given to you when you have signed up for and paid for your classes.

May:

May 7 9:30-1:30 Naomi’s Sampler Quilt class #1 of 4. Blocks 1-3.                                                                         You will learn to make 3 blocks per class starting with a simple block and working your way up to try several different techniques. Remember you can always stay after class, come back in for help or finish what you don’t get done at home. Cost is $60 for all 4 classes.

Longarm Education training.  This is for anyone thinking about getting Any Longarm machine or if you already have one.

 

Classes are $45 for each 1/2 day class or $80 for 2. $75 for the full day Art and Stitch Class.

May 16 

9:30 - 12:30 Stepping Stones too Quilting your first Quilt

This class is for everyone - whether you've quilted or want to learn , or if you already quilt.  

Topics include:

How to prepare the quilt top and backing for quilting

How to select, resize, audition and apply quilt designs

Stitch-in-the -ditch and meander quilting

Threads, needles and tension

Batting and basting basics

 

12:30-1:30 lunch Break

 

1:30 - 4:30  Fast, Fun and Fabulous Free Motion

Quilters everywhere LOVE the excitement and fun of free motion quilting - and it's easier than you think!

Topics include:

How to develop an inventory of free motion designs

Proper scaling and spacing of design elements

Edge to edge free motion quilting

*Adjusting your quilting path to create your own new designs

*Using micro handles for free-motion control

 

    Friday May 17

9:30 - 12:30 Ruler Essentials

If you love precision and consistency in your quilting designs, you will love using design rulers and templates!

Topics include:

*Handle rulers safely

*Understand and use ruler markings for precision and accuracy

*Use piecing lines and marking tool to build ruler design confidence

*Versa tool quilting: stitch-in-the-ditch, cross-hatch, piano keys, clam-shells and arcs

*Apply binding with the Versa Tool

 

12:30-1:30 Lunch Break

 

1:30 - 4:30  Curvy Rulers Ahead

This is a ruler class with Curves.  Learn how to use, blend and create with those lovely curves that set off your quilt!

Topics include:

*Use mini-circle, half circle and full circle rulers

*Master Wave, arc and clam-shell rulers

*Measure and Fit designs with a border

*Create curved cross-hatching ad ruler/background fill combos

*Alternate methods with the HQ Pro-Stitcher and Groovy Boards

 

May 21 Naomi’s Sampler Quilt Class #2.   9:30-1:30 Blocks 4-6.

 

We will be closing at noon on May 24th to go set up for the Chewelah Quilt Show.

 

The shop will be closed May 25, 26 & 27 for Memorial Day weekend and so that we can be at the Chewelah Quilt Show.

 

June:

 

June 4; Naomi’s Sampler Quilt Class #3 9:30-1:30   Blocks 7-9.

 

June 13-16 The shop will be closed so we can set up and be a Vendor at the North Idaho Quilter’s Quilt Show in Couer d’ Alene.

 

June 24-28 KID’S CAN SEW CAMP 9:30-1:30 Ages 8 and up. Let’s make a Rail Fence Quilt!   By Friday afternoon you will leave with a completed twin size quilt. All supplies included and the long arm quilting too. $125 (Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult).

June 14 & 15 Fri. 10-6 & Sat. 10-5. North Idaho Quilters It’s a Quilt World After All   North Idaho Fairgrounds 4060 North Government Way Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. We will be a vendor here too! It will be our first time at this wonderful quilt show. $7 admission

 

July 27 9-4 Harvest of Quilts Rosalia’s 1st Annual Outdoor Quilt Show.

October 18-20 Friday & Saturday 10-6, Sunday 10-4 Washington State Quilter’s 41st Annual Quilt Show “Joyful Journey” at Spokane County Fairgrounds 404 N. Havana Spokane Valley, WA $10 admission good for all 3 days or volunteer and get in for FREE!

August 3, 9 – 4 26th Annual Fat Quarter Quilt ShowQuilts of Many Colors” at the Deer Park Catholic Church. $1 donation at the door please.

Oct. 18-20  WSQ Quilt Show. Fri - Sat 10 - 6, Sun. 10 - 4. “Joyful Journey” 500+ quilts on display and over 50 Vendors.  Spokane County Fair and Expo Center 404 N Havana St. Spokane Valley, WA 99212.  Come by and say Hi!  We will be in our regular booth 45 in bay 3.  See you there!   $10 Entry fee good for all 3 days. 

 

If you are taking a break from your sewing to work outside, It's a great time to get you scissors sharpened and your machine its annual servicing.  We have Scissor and Pinking Shear sharpening available all the time in shop as well as Sewing machine cleaning, maintenance and repair On Site by Mr. Sew-Fix-it himself and his trusty assistant. 

 

 $70 for domestic machines. $80 Surgers. Longarm cleaning services starting at $115. Evaluation of machines $20. prices based on each machine and what all is needed. Repair Service $60 per hour plus parts.
