March 2019 newsletter


Febuurrrrrrrrary is over and March is here.  The calendar says that Spring is to appear soon, even if it doesn't look like it outside or feel like it in the temperatures  Have faith, this too shall pass.

 

With Spring and Summer come Sunshine, warmer temps, flowers blooming, the ASG Greater Spokane Shop Hop and Quilt Shows.   ll be taking part in Shop Hop, the Chewelah Arts Guild Quilt Show Memorial weekend and The North Idaho Quilt Show in June. So mark your calendars to join us for the fun!

 

We are making a change...Instead of What's New Wednesday every other Wednesday, We will be doing Sneak Peek Saturday!  This will give a peek at what is new in the shop each week as well as the manufacturer and/or collection name.  So look on Facebook or our webpage to see what's new.

April: 

Apr 1 - 5 9:30 -12:30   Kids Can Sew Camp!  We will again be holding camp for kids 8 and up to come in (those under 12 must have someone 16 or older with them) to learn the basics of quilting start to finish.  The kids will be making a 3 piece pillow case and twin sized Rail Fence quilt.  $125 for 15 hours of class time and includes ALL supplies.

 

April 13 9:30 - 3:30  Mariner's Compass.  This will be a paper pieced 12"  compass that can be put into a quilt, Wall hanging or table topper.  $45 includes copy of the template.

    

April 25 - 27   American Sewing Guild Shop Hop.  There will be some fun new things this year. So plan to join in the Fun.  (If you aren't planning to get involved and would be interested in helping us in our shop please COME IN, NO Email Or Texts please, to talk with Twila about it.  We will need at least 1 person per day) YES WE STILL NEED HELP!  You can earn store credit for the hours you help.

 

Longarm Education training.  This is for anyone thinking about getting Any Longarm machine or if you already have one.


Classes are $45 for each 1/2 day class or $80 for 2. $75 for the full day Art and Stitch Class.

9:30 - 12:30 Stepping Stones too Quilting your first Quilt

This class is for everyone - whether you've quilted or want to learn , or if you already quilt.  

Topics include:

How to prepare the quilt top and backing for quilting

How to select, resize, audition and apply quilt designs

Stitch-in-the -ditch and meander quilting

Threads, needles and tension

Batting and basting basics

1:30 - 4:30  Fast, Fun and Fabulous Free Motion

Quilters everywhere LOVE the excitement and fun of free motion quilting - and it's easier than you think!

Topics include:

How to develop an inventory of free motion designs

Proper scaling and spacing of design elements

Edge to edge free motion quilting

*Adjusting your quilting path to create your own new designs

*Using micro handles for free-motion control

 

    Friday May 17

9:30 - 12:30 Ruler Essentials

If you love precision and consistency in your quilting designs, you will love using design rulers and templates!

Topics include:

*Handle rulers safely

*Understand and use ruler markings for precision and accuracy

*Use piecing lines and marking tool to build ruler design confidence

*Versa tool quilting: stitch-in-the-ditch, cross-hatch, piano keys, clam-shells and arcs

*Apply binding with the Versa Tool

 

1:30 - 4:30  Curvy Rulers Ahead

This is a ruler class with Curves.  Learn how to use, blend and create with those lovely curves that set off your quilt!

Topics include:

*Use mini-circle, half circle and full circle rulers

*Master Wave, arc and clam-shell rulers

*Measure and Fit designs with a border

*Create curved cross-hatching ad ruler/background fill combos

*Alternate methods with the HQ Pro-Stitcher and Groovy Boards

 

Sat May 18  

9:30 - 4:30 (lunch break will be taken) Art & Stitch!

Learn how to use Art & Stitch to create your own quilting designs, work with those you have and pre-view how they will look on your quilt.

 

We will be closed May 26 & 27 for Memorial Day.

 

There will be more things happening in April and May, but we wanted to let you know about the biggies for now.

Come on by and say Hi. We will be in our usual space in the South east corner in front of the bleachers. Look for our NEW SIGNS!

 

June 14 & 15 Fri. 10-6 & Sat. 10-5. North Idaho Quilters “It’s a Quilt World After All”   North Idaho Fairgrounds 4060 North Government Way Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. We will be a vendor here too! It will be our first time at this wonderful quilt show.

 

July 27 9-4 Harvest of Quilts Rosalia’s 1st Annual Outdoor Quilt Show.

October 18-20 Friday & Saturday 10-6, Sunday 10-4 Washington State Quilter’s 41st Annual Quilt Show “Joyful Journey” at Spokane County Fairgrounds 404 N. Havana Spokane Valley, WA

 

Just a reminder that we have Scissor and Pinking Shear sharpening available all the time in shop as well as Sewing machine cleaning, maintenance and repair On Site. 

 

 $70 for domestic machines. $80 Sergers and Longarm cleaning services starting at $115. Evaluation of machines $20. Restoration prices based on each machine and what all is needed. Repair Service $60 per hour plus parts.
